Disillusioned with home and armed with a stack of porn magazines for barter, longtime friends Beck Richards and Parry Simms venture down the Baja peninsula in a battered pickup named Ginger searching for giant waves and Beck’s lost love, Elena, who has mysteriously vanished into the desert. As they journey south, the circumstances behind Elena’s disappearance become more troubling. The mission to find her is thwarted by bandits, poverty, corrupt cops, caustic digestion, and a brutal ocean. With each mile Ginger deteriorates along with Beck and Parry’s friendship. The adversity forces them to question assumptions and beliefs they’ve held as fact their entire lives. The juxtaposition of rugged Baja desert and Pacific Ocean becomes an integral force shaping the characters as the novel builds toward a dramatic climax where fear, hope, and history collide with undeniable truths about who they are as men. Everything is at stake: Beck’s search for Elena, his friendship with Parry, their future, and, indeed, their very lives.
